El Lute and us - a story about remembering

Who invented El Lute? Eleuterio Sánchez was always in the wrong place, at the wrong time. Despite whatever we have been told. A one woman show about memory and the creation of a national myth, El Lute and us takes us through the process of telling, retelling and remembering stories. How do we build the past?

Through the story of Eleuterio Sánchez, an urban legend for being unjustly imprisoned and escaping from prison several times in the 1970’s, the narrator reflects on memory and storytelling. She compares the character the media created of Eleuterio and the actual memories her grandmothers, mother, and father have. She concludes considering the dangers of romanticizing the past, and realizing that is exactly what she has been doing while telling this story.

Currently working on the full length piece, the short version directed by David Luque sold out in Madrid in Autumn 2022.
